About Sophia – Ceramic Artist & Artisan

Now living in the south of France ; Sophia is a passionate ceramic artist whose life and work are deeply intertwined with the tactile beauty of clay and the enduring strength of stoneware. Born in Moscow and raised by the sea in Haifa, Israel, the constant rhythm of the waves became an early influence, shaping her sensitivity to natural textures and organic forms.

Sophia draws inspiration from diverse textures, colors, and light. Her work balances the delicate interplay between time-honored techniques and contemporary design sensibilities. Through expert glazing and careful firing, each piece becomes a unique artifact that embodies both durability and artistic expression.

Her journey is one of continual exploration and transformation. From the vibrant landscapes of Mozambique to the gray noise of Paris, and now settled in the sunlit south of France—Sophia’s
ceramics reflect a rich tapestry of cultural influences and natural inspiration. Each place has left its unique mark on her artistic vision, enriching her connection to the earth and the materials she works with.

Sophia’s formal education began with art studies in high school, followed by sociology in Paris. Yet, it was through hands-on creative practices—painting, sculpting, sewing, and especially
slabbuilding with clay—that she found her authentic voice. The tactile process of molding and shaping clay has become a grounding force in her life, offering a meditative connection to the earth amid the ever-changing currents of her experiences.

Ceramics is not just a craft for me; it’s a way of embracing constant change while leaving ht e last word to the forces of nature.”

Sophia’s ceramics range from functional dinnerware and tableware to sculptural decorative objects. Every creation invites you to experience the warmth and calm of the earth’s embrace, connecting your daily life with the rich textures of nature and culture.

As a woman who has journeyed across cultures and landscapes, Sophia’s work is a celebration of transformation, connection, and the art of living. She invites you to explore her collection and discover the unique stories shaped by her hands and the earth’s enduring presence.
